*The enhanced prizes detailed for Fillies and Mares relate only to performances in races not restricted to Fillies and Mares. In all other circumstances, a registered Filly or Mare would be eligible for the standard prize value, subject to the provisions of Rule 124.7 and 126.4.
National Hunt Breeders’ Prizes - Second Tier (40% of Breeders’ Prize)
From 2008 the National Hunt Breeders’ Prize Scheme has awarded a lesser percentage, 40% of the prize, to horses which otherwise qualify under a) and b) but were previously excluded by one or more of the following criteria –
a) the progeny of a stallion based overseas
b) had its first run on the Flat
c) was sold as a foal outside Great Britain
By introducing the Second Tier, the TBA is no longer excluding those mares owners who used the best stallion for their mare, irrespective of where it stood, or excluding those mare owners who set out to breed a dual purpose horse, whose first run was on the Flat, or those breeders who routinely sell a number of their stock as foals at overseas sales.
Recognition and Reward for Leading National Hunt Mares
In September 2008 owners of the highest rated National Hunt race mares, identified by their official rating in the Anglo - Irish Jump Classifications published annually in May, were notified by the TBA that their mare was a member of an elite group that had been identified to receive an incentive to breed winners of the future, entitling them to a voucher – Continuing for the 2010 breeding season, the HBLB Mare Voucher Scheme, awarded annually to the highest rated NH race mares, is worth up to £3,000 (subject to available funds) against a nomination to a British based stallion.
