Document text:
The Tristram Ricketts Fellowship is designed to enable a man or woman, within British horseracing, to acquire knowledge and experience at home and/or preferably abroad and, in the process, gain a better understanding of the wider aspects of the sport. Following the Fellowship, the individual Fellow’s effectiveness at work should be greatly enhanced and have made a recognisable contribution to horseracing.
2.Project
2.1 One Fellowship will be awarded each year to an individual who presents the best project to the Tristram Ricketts Fellowship Board for the benefit of British horseracing.
2.2 The Fellowship Board will prefer to award Fellowships to applicants who are unlikely to obtain funding from elsewhere and those who are looking for the ‘chance of a lifetime’ will be seriously considered. Applications including travel abroad will also be favoured. The subject of any proposed project must provide a clear benefit to British racing.
3.General
3.1 Citizenship : Fellowships are confined to British citizens who are resident in the UK
3.2 Age : Fellowships will only be granted to applicants over the age of 16.
3.3 Former Fellows: Any person previously awarded the Tristram Ricketts Fellowship may not reapply.
3.4 Duration of Fellowship : A Fellowship will last for 12 months.
4.Conditions of Award
The award of a Tristram Ricketts Fellowship is subject to the Fellow agreeing to be bound by the conditions laid down in an agreement signed between the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) and the Fellow. A Fellowship cannot commence until the HBLB receives an executed copy of the agreement document from the Fellow.
5.Award Funding
5.1 The successful applicant will become the Tristram Ricketts Fellow for a 12 month period and will be awarded funding of up to £10,000.
5.2 The Fellow will need to demonstrate within his or her application how the money will be spent and provide a precise plan, programme and budgetary framework. It is the responsibility of the Fellow to make his/her own plans and arrangements to achieve the objectives within the scope of the Fellowship.
6.Selection Process
6.1 The closing date for applications for the 2010 Fellowship award has now passed. Applications for 2011 will be available early in the new year.
6.2 The selection of the Tristram Ricketts Fellow and the procedures undertaken are at the absolute discretion of the Fellowship Board. Applicants must be available to attend an interview in person if required.
6.3 A reserve applicant may be selected but will only be informed if a selected applicant is unable to take up a Fellowship.
7.Project Review
7.1 Within six weeks of the completion of the Fellowship, the Fellow must provide a report to the Fellowship Board which should indicate results, findings, recommendations and accounts from the exercise.
7.2 All intellectual property and other rights in the report will belong to HBLB. The report may be used for any purpose as approved by the Fellowship Board, including promotion of the project, publicity and further research. HBLB reserves the right to use the Fellow’s name in connection with these activities.
7.3 The views and opinions expressed by a Fellow in the report will not necessarily state or reflect the views and opinions of HBLB or the Fellowship Board.
7.4 The Fellowship Board has no liability in connection with any actions or issues undertaken by the Fellow during his/her Fellowship year, in the report or subsequent to the Fellowship.
8.Retention of Information
8.1 All application forms submitted by applicants for the Tristram Ricketts Fellowship become the property of the HBLB. No forms or supporting papers will be returned to applicants following the selection process and forms of unsuccessful applicants will be destroyed within 3 years of the closing date for applications. Applicants should therefore not submit any original documents as HBLB cannot undertake to return these.
8.2 Any information regarding applicants held by HBLB will be used in accordance with the Privacy Statement.
